DIGITAL NOMAD
Published: April 2023
One of the major perks of being a digital nomad is the freedom to explore the world while still maintaining a career. You can work from anywhere, whether it’s a sandy beach or a mountaintop.
However, one of the most significant challenges of the digital nomad lifestyle is finding healthy and delicious meals on the go. It’s easy to slip into unhealthy eating habits when you’re constantly on the move, but that doesn’t have to be the case.
I have been a digital nomad and world traveller for the past six years, and this is a struggle I have had to personally deal with.
In this blog post, I’ll give you some fantastic digital nomad recipes that are easy to make, healthy, and delicious.
My ultimate tip for you as a digital nomad is to carry reusable containers or reusable lids. If space is limited in your suitcase, simply travel only with reusable lids like the ones I pack below. These are game changers for keeping food fresh and for packing light.
Greek salad is a delicious and healthy option that you can easily take with you for a day of adventuring, or working on your laptop in a cafe.
To make it, all you need to do is layer chopped lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, feta cheese, and red onions in a mason jar.
For the dressing, mix olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a separate container, and pour it over the salad when ready to eat.
This is a healthy option that you can easily throw in your backpack, pack a reusable spoon, and have lunch on the go!
A burrito bowl is an excellent option for a healthy and satisfying meal. Cook up some quinoa, and add some black beans, diced tomatoes, corn, avocado, and meat.
You can top this dish off with salsa and sliced green onions, and your burrito bowl is ready to eat.
You can easily make this dish vegan or vegetarian-friendly, by adding tempeh, tofu, or any favourite protein option that is available in the country of your travels.
Pasta salad is a great way to get in all your nutrients in one meal.
Cook up some whole wheat pasta and add some cherry tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, diced cucumbers, and bell pepper.
You can also add some grilled chicken or shrimp for extra protein.
For the dressing, mix olive oil, red wine vinegar, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. An easy digital nomad meal on the go!
Snacks are essential when you’re working and travelling, or you could easily be buying every meal and snack at cafes or restaurants (which can get pricey!).
As a digital nomad, it’s important to make sure that you’re eating healthy snacks, and not simply easy grabs.
Consider making something healthy at home and bringing it with you for a day of adventuring, such as roasted chickpeas, energy balls made with nuts and fruits, or sliced apples with peanut butter. Protein-packed snacks are my favourite way to snack on the go, and these are easy nomad recipes to make and pack.
And don’t forget to get a reusable cutlery kit and stick it in your backpack!
Overnight oats are a delicious and nutritious option for breakfast, and they’re easy to make ahead of time.
Mix rolled oats, almond milk, greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey, and cinnamon in a mason jar, then let it sit overnight in the refrigerator.
In the morning, add some fresh fruits, nuts, and a drizzle of honey, and your easy breakfast is complete!
Stir fry is an amazingly easy meal to make as a quick evening meal.
All you will need are veggies, and even better if you can get them from a local farmers market, and protein. Feel free to grab a few different protein options so you have stir-fry for the next few day’s meals.
Cut your veggies and add them to a wok to simmer. Once cooked, add in a stir-fry sauce and cilantro or peanuts to garnish.
As a digital nomad, it’s crucial to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, and these digital nomad recipes prove that eating healthily while on the road can be easy and tasty.
So, the next time you’re on the move, consider trying out one of these recipes. Moreover, you can even prep these dishes in advance and enjoy them throughout your trip. Happy, healthy-eating nomads!
